Ballina spreads across an island and low river flats at the mouth of the Richmond, with the red-soil Alstonville plateau rising behind it and Lennox Head on the coast to the north. Each has its own container customer. On the plateau it is macadamia and avocado growers, who store harvest bins, netting, sprays and machinery parts in a used cargo-worthy 20ft or 40ft. Down on the flats around Wardell it is cane farms. Along the coast it is households and trades: renovations, surfboards and boat gear, and tool storage for builders working through Lennox and Skennars Head, often on hire.
Much of Ballina is only a little above sea level, and the 2022 floods reached places that had never been wet before. A common question is whether a container is flood storage. The straight answer is no. A cargo-worthy container is sold wind and watertight, which means rain and wind-driven spray stay out. Standing water will come in under and around the doors, and a container that is empty or lightly loaded can float and drift.
What a container does offer is mobility. It has no footings. With warning, and while roads are still open, it can be unloaded or lifted onto a truck and taken to higher ground. If that is your plan, organise it ahead of time, keep the contents manageable, and site the container where a truck can still reach it when the low ground is going under.
Warm, wet and salty is hard on everything. Near the beach, keep on top of paint chips; on the plateau, high rainfall means vents and an air gap under the floor are worth fitting from the start. Anything converted for use as a studio or workspace is better started from a new single-trip container. As-is units are not sold as watertight and are a poor match for this climate unless the contents are steel.
Ballina is a short run down the Pacific Highway from the Queensland border. Delivery is quoted with the container and depends on distance and access; older streets in town and steep plateau driveways are the usual complications. Check your site against our delivery page and send photos of anything tight.
North-west of the river, Cumbalum and Ballina Heights are Ballina's newer, higher estates, and houses there are being built and moved into all the time. That makes them regular hire territory: a 20ft on the block during a build, or on the driveway while a family moves in. New-estate streets can be narrow and the nature strips freshly planted, so let us know what the truck will have to back past. Covenants on some estates limit containers after handover, so check before you plan a permanent one.
Ballina's industrial and trade businesses are clustered around the Southern Cross estate near the airport, where there is hardstand and room for a truck to swing. Builders, marine businesses and suppliers there tend to buy a used cargo-worthy container as extra lockable space, often a 40ft. Being on higher ground than the river flats also makes it a sensible place for business storage.
South along the Richmond, Wardell and Broadwater are cane and river country. Farm access is usually flat but soft after rain, and cane headlands are narrow. Low ground here goes under in big floods, so keep containers as high as possible and plan ahead if you would need to move one. Tell us about your access and we will quote delivery with the container.

No. Containers keep rain out, not floodwater. Water enters at the doors once it is standing against them, and an empty container can float. In flood-prone parts of Ballina, use a container as storage you can relocate early, and site it on the highest ground available.

Yes. A 20ft on hire suits a build or a move-in. Check your estate covenant on where it can sit, and tell us about narrow streets or new landscaping the truck needs to avoid.

Often, but blocks are small and streets narrow, so measure the driveway and check what is overhead. A 20ft on a tilt-tray needs a straight approach and about 3.5m of clear width; a 10ft is the fallback where space is tight. Photos from the street let us confirm before booking.
Timing depends on stock and the truck schedule; we confirm it when you book.
