Coast blocks and range roads

The Bruce Highway makes the run north simple; the two ends of the trip are what vary. On the coastal side — Caloundra, Maroochydore, the estates spreading west of them — blocks are small and new streets are narrow, so most deliveries are a 20ft container backed into a driveway on a tilt-tray. Inland, the railway towns of Landsborough, Beerwah and Nambour open out into farms and acreage where there is room to work.

Then there is the range. Maleny, Montville and the properties along the Blackall Range are reached by steep, winding roads, and many driveways up there are steeper still. Wet weather turns red soil greasy in a hurry. If you are on the range, tell us the road you would bring a truck up and what the driveway is made of, and have a look at the clearances on our delivery page first.

What people up here use them for

Around Beerwah and the Glass House Mountains it is farm storage: pineapple, strawberry and macadamia growers keeping fertiliser, irrigation fittings, picking gear and packaging locked up and out of the rain. A used cargo-worthy 20ft handles most of it; growers storing pallets tend to go to a 40ft.

On the coast, owner-builders and renovators hire a container for the length of the build and send it back. Surf clubs, sporting clubs and market stallholders buy small — a 10ft takes up about as much room as a parked car.

Noosa and the hinterland villages have a steady run of people fitting out studios and workshops. If you are going to stand and work inside it, a high cube gives you the extra headroom for insulation and lining without the ceiling sitting on your head.

Keeping the inside dry in a humid climate

A cargo-worthy container is sold wind and watertight, so rain is not the issue — moisture already inside is. The Sunshine Coast is humid most of the year, and warm air trapped in a sealed steel box condenses on the roof overnight. Vents, a bit of airflow under the floor and never packing things damp will sort it. As-is containers are a cheaper grade and are not sold as watertight; they suit gear that does not mind the odd drip.

Buderim and the other hill suburbs

Buderim sits on a mountain in the middle of the coast, and its streets show it: steep driveways, retaining walls, split-level houses and not much flat ground. Parts of Palmwoods, Woombye and Mooloolah Valley are similar. On these blocks the question is whether a truck can reach a level spot in a straight line. Sometimes the answer is the bottom of the driveway, and sometimes it is a crane truck lifting from the street. Photos of the driveway from the road and of the spot you have in mind save a lot of back and forth.

New estates in the south and west

Caloundra South, Palmview and the estates around Baringa and Nirimba are building fast, and building sites and new owners are regular hire customers — a 20ft for the build, collected at handover. Estate rules often restrict containers once houses are occupied, so short-term hire fits better than a permanent box. Kawana and Birtinya are similar: smaller blocks, tidy streets and body corporate rules in many townhouse complexes.

Trades, industry and the northern end

The Sunshine Coast's industrial estates — Kunda Park, Kawana, Coolum, Noosaville — are where trades and small manufacturers buy a used container as a lockup or extra stock room on a hardstand. North of Maroochydore, Coolum, Peregian and the hinterland towns of Eumundi, Cooroy and Pomona run from beachside blocks to acreage. The coastal end is sandy and salty; inland is red soil that turns slippery after rain. Match the container grade to the job: cargo-worthy for anything that must stay dry, and remember as-is units are not sold watertight.

Sunshine Coast container questions

Can you get a container up to Maleny or Montville?

In most cases, yes. The range roads are steep and winding and some driveways will not take a tilt-tray, so we ask for photos of the entrance and the drop spot before booking. Wet-weather deliveries on red soil are best avoided.

Do I need council approval for a container on the Sunshine Coast?

It depends on the zoning, the size of the block and how long the container stays. Short-term use during a build is treated differently to a permanent structure. Check with Sunshine Coast Council or Noosa Council before delivery — we can supply the container's dimensions for the application.

Is a 20ft or a 40ft better for farm storage?

Most small farms start with a 20ft because it fits almost anywhere and can be shifted later. If you are storing pallets, long irrigation pipe or a ride-on plus implements, a 40ft is better value per cubic metre.

Can you deliver a container to a steep block in Buderim?

Sometimes. It depends on whether a truck can reach a level spot in a straight line. If not, a crane truck may be able to lift the container from the street. Send photos and we will tell you which applies.

Do you deliver to Cooroy, Pomona and Eumundi?

Yes. The hinterland towns north of the Sunshine Coast are within our delivery area. Tell us whether the last stretch is sealed and what the driveway is like.

How long does container delivery to Sunshine Coast take?

Timing depends on stock and the truck schedule; we confirm it when you book.

How much does delivery to Sunshine Coast cost?

Delivery is quoted upfront based on your exact address and container size — one clear number covering container + freight, GST inclusive. Call 1300 235 972 for a delivered price today.

Can I view a container before buying?

Ask us and we'll send photos of your actual container — serial number visible — before it's delivered. Local inspection options depend on depot stock; ask when you enquire.
